Wind Symphony: Trevor Kay, Conductor
The Wind Symphony is the premier performing ensemble at Mesquite High School. Student members in the Wind Symphony are the most advanced players in the MHS Band and perform at an extremely high level of musicianship on their instrument. Wind Symphony students are expected to be enrolled in private lessons and are required to participate in All-Region Band auditions. Wind Symphony attends the UIL Concert & Sight Reading Evaluation as a Varsity ensemble as well as the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest.
Symphonic Band: Jacob Rodriguez, Conductor
Symphonic Band is our Non-Varsity ensemble and is comprised of students who are advancing on their instrument and are musically maturing. There is an increasing number of students enrolled in private lessons in Symphonic Band, and participation in All-Region Band auditions is highly encouraged. Symphonic Band attends the UIL Concert & Sight Reading Evaluation as well as the UIL Solo & Ensemble Contest.
Concert Band: Omari Wiseman, Conductor
Concert Band is composed primarily of freshmen and new MHS Band members. Concert Band performs their own music at the Winter Concert, Spring Concert, and attends the UIL Concert & Sight Reading Evaluation. Students of all abilities are enrolled in Concert Band, and continue to develop and grow as individual musicians to help the Mighty Maroon Band be at its best.
Percussion: Danyel Buentello, Director
All percussion students are a part of the MHS percussion program. In the fall semester, all percussion students are in their own percussion class, and in the spring percussionists are placed in the appropriate concert band class. In addition to performing with the marching band and concert ensembles, percussionists compete in percussion-specific contests as well throughout the year.
Jazz Band: Jacob Rodriguez, Director
Our jazz band is a full big band ensemble comprised of trumpet, trombone, saxophone, and rhythm sections (drumset, guitar/bass). Jazz Band meets on ‘B’ days during 8th period, performs locally in the city of Mesquite and at festivals every spring.
Colorguard: James Thomas & Aimee Boucher, Directors
The Colorguard meets year-round at Mesquite HS. In the fall, the colorguard is a part of the MHS Marching Band. In the spring, they transition into Winter Guard and compete at their own contests through the North Texas Colorguard Association (NTCA).
